Job Description

The Software Engineer (C++) will be responsible for software development, product maintenance, architecture, testing, and process improvement. This role requires expertise in C++ programming, embedded systems, and software development best practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Software Development & Documentation

• Participate in requirement gathering, specification creation, and design
• Provide project planning input, including estimates and dependencies
• Develop new features and modify existing functionality
• Ensure all software is developed with minimal defects and meets project timelines
• Implement unit and regression tests
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation

2. Software Product Maintenance

• Respond to product issues and ensure timely resolution
• Update regression/unit test suites
• Maintain issue tracking systems (JIRA, Confluence, etc.)

3. Software Design & Architecture

• Contribute to architecture design for product streams and technology areas
• Follow best practices for design and implementation
• Collaborate with developers, architects, and product managers to ensure solutions fit into the Invenco product range
• Work with the Security Architect to ensure compliance with relevant security standards
• Conduct peer reviews to ensure quality and alignment with design

4. Test Plan Development

• Develop developer test plans for regression suites
• Ensure test plans cover all functionality and features
• Support testers in understanding new features and changes

5. Development Process & Continuous Improvement

• Follow Agile development methodology
• Improve software development processes and tools
• Identify opportunities for process enhancement
• Use systems like JIRA, Confluence, Time Logging, and Project Planning for tracking work

Required Qualifications & Skills

Essential:

✔ Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Development, or Engineering
✔ 3+ years of development/testing experience in C++
✔ Experience with Version Control Systems (Git)
✔ Strong understanding of software development, networking, and testing
✔ Problem-solving and debugging skills

Desirable:

✔ Experience in Payments or Retail Petroleum industry
✔ Embedded Linux x86/ARM experience
✔ Knowledge of C, Java, Assembler, Python, Bash scripting
✔ Familiarity with embedded tools (compilers, debuggers, JTAG, protocol analyzers, RTOS/OSes)
✔ Ability to promote a test-driven development approach
